It’s new year and it’s time to make a difference, a time for a change. That is why New Year resolutions are significant. However it is common experience that New Year resolution may not last for more than a couple of months. By the time the year reaches the halfway mark all the resolutions could be forgotten about.
One particular reason for this could be that we could be making resolutions which are not achievable. We could be aiming for the sky. It is always nice to aim high but then we need to take into consideration the “burn-out” aspect. We could be resolving to keep fit in the New Year hence chalk out a strict exercise regimen. However for this, there are several aspects that need to be taken into consideration like our age, our physical condition, the amount of strain our body can bear, etc. It may not be possible for everyone to join the gym.
For some even jogging may not be advisable. A simple morning and/or evening walk would suffice. Many would resolve do go on a strict diet regimen to reduce their body weight. Any doctor will advise that it is very dangerous for one’s health to go on a crash diet. Our body needs all the vital nutrients. Hence depriving the boy of these nutrients could have an adverse effect on the body. It would be advisable to consult a nutritionist as far as dieting is concerned as one has to take various aspects like Body-Mass Index (BMI), age, etc. into consideration. Stress happens to be the biggest killer in today’s world. It may not be possible to live a totally stress-free life. So one needs to learn how to effectively manage stress. The key aspect is to find happiness in everything we do.
A common resolution in anyone’s list is to give up alcoholic drinks and smoking. The intention may be good, but for many it may not be possible to completely come up the habit from the very first day of the New Year. It takes time to give up drinking and smoking and other such harmful habits. Hence a gradual tapering method of giving up these vices could bear fruit. Probably one of the most important of the resolutions that should be included in everyone’s list is to drive carefully. Far too many lives are being lost as a result of road-accidents. If one has to drive then drive slowly and be attentive while driving. Avoid using the mobile while driving and avoid drinking and driving like hell. Probably a new resolution that needs to be included in the list is to resolve to take care of our environment. Each one of us should take it as a moral duty to do everything possible to protect the environment. We survive only if our environment survives. One does not have to be environmentalist to protect mother-nature. Little things count. And do not forget to be good to others in the New Year. Just like charity begins at home, goodness too begins at home.
