‘One-Term Limit’ for Politicians

All eyes are set on the approaching election. Indian politicians are in pre-election mode. They are a bunch of opportunists, who use every platform– religion, social or educational, to influence votes.
Our elections are not fair and honest — Voters are lured with money and material benefits — goods such as washing machines, and fridges are distributed to attract women; while youth are offered mobiles and free Internet connections; and men are generously made to wine and dine with chicken biryani free of cost. So, ignorant population keep on electing MLAs in exchange of these goods as they are unable to guess politicians’ intentions to capture power by corrupt means.
Voters, in general, elect politicians who will represent them and put their interests forward. People expect development and progressive ideas to take the country forward. People vote with the hope that their wishes will come true and their life would be happy. But none of these things happen. Once in power, the elected representatives tend to change their views.
At every election, we observe, politicians promise us heaven and then take us to hell. They promise us development but indulge in their self-development. They promise us freedom but try to limit our liberty by telling us what to dress, what to eat and which religion to believe. Politicians are elected to improve the condition of common man but they do everything possible to make it worse; in politics the friends and relatives of powerful, benefit and also those who grease these leaders.
It is said, “Politicians are re-elected based on their performance.” It is also whispered that their accomplishment, attainment, achievement can be planned, with fictitious figures through executives under their (politicians) control. All politicians vie for the seat in the government because they have visualised the enormous power, position and profit it presents.
Let all Indians wake up from its Rip Van winkle’s sleep and demand to amend the constitution to set a ‘ONE’ term limit for politician to hold an office. Let us love all politicians and do wrong to none. ‘One term limit’ is required because our motherland is not an individual’s private property to be in the hands of one single party forever and ever till death doth them apart. Election is a very serious issue where the fate of all of us, the future of our children depends. We are the voters; we are King and Queen Makers to rule our country.
We need to protect our motherland from those who manipulate issues for their personal gains. This we can do together by the rule of ‘One term limit’ for politicians to hold office.
Some will agree with me; and some will not as is the nature of a democracy.
