TIES to hold annual Inclusion Day
PORVORIM: Towards Inclusion Everywhere in Society (TIES), a parent support group of children with disabilities, will organize its annual Inclusion Day at Chubby Cheeks – Spring Valley High School at Porvorim on February 2 from 9:15 am to 2 pm.
This unique event is being held for the sixth time where children with disabilities are partnered with a regular child and together they will participate in various activities such as games, art & craft activities and a music & dance session.

Restricted water to Ponda, Tiswadi
PANJIM: Due to urgent electrical maintenance works at Opa Water Treatment Plant, there will be restricted water supply to the consumers of Ponda and Tiswadi on February 6 and 7.
Feast of Our Lady of Candelaria
PANJIM: The Feast of Our Lady of Candelaria, Pilerne, will be celebrated on February 10. On the novena days, there is recitation of the Rosary, followed by Mass at 5 pm. On the Feast day, there will be two Masses at 7 am and 11:55 am. The concelebrated High Mass will be at 9:30 am.
50 years of Rotary Club of Panaji
PANJIM: Rotary Club of Panaji inaugurated the renovated Anganwadi at Curca at the hands of District Governor, Rtn Dr Jorson Fernandes and President, Rtn Sayiprakash Raikar, in the presence of local Sarpanch, Ghanashyam Vernekar on January 30.
The structure was totally renovated by Rotary Club of Panaji as a landmark project, celebrating 50 years.
The renovation was done at a cost of Rs 7 lakhs, with generous contributions from Rotarians Ramesh Shetye, Deepak Harmalkar, Satish Kavlekar, Ravindra Kambli, Guruprasad Mantrawadi and Carlito Martins.
The project was completed in 45 days by Project Chairman, Rtn Andrew D’Souza, assisted by Rtn Nester Sequeira and Rtn Sanjay Gaonkar.
Alcohol awareness programme
PANJIM: Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) will be conducting an awareness programme on the ill-effects of alcoholism at Shri Shantadurga Saunsthan hall, Dhaktem Bhat, Dongari, Mandur in St Andre constituency on February 3 at 5:30 pm. Dr Rajesh Patil, Associate Professor, Goa Medical College, Bambolim, will conduct the session on alcoholism awareness and its ill-effects.
Children’s theatre festival
PANJIM: Bal Bhavan will organise a day long children’s theatre festival on February 3, from 10 am onwards at Institute Menezes Braganza auditorium.
Vaidehi Nayak, Mayor, Panjim Municipal Corporation will inaugurate the festival in the presence of Sanjay Harmalkar, President, Institute Menezes Braganza, Panjim.
In the morning session, Kolo Budin Bolo (Bal Bhavan, Panjim), Gauri (Bal Bhavan Kendra, Siolim), Soimachea Sangathan (Bal Bhavan Kendra, Keri), kauns thar Zalo (Bal Bhavan Kendra, Savoi Verem) will perform.
The performance in the afternoon session will be from 2:30 pm onwards. Ran Bhonddi (Bal Bhavan Kendra Sanguem), Satva Pariksha (Bal Bhavan Kendra, Honda), Alshiak Wagh Khatlo (Bal Bhavan Kendra, Bicholim), Audition (Bal Bhavan Kendra, Barabhumi Tambdi Surla), Sadacharacho Taviz (Bal Bhavan Kendra, Margao), Gosht Ajichea Ajichi (Bal Bhavan Kendra, Khandepar).
TAG to observe 5th Foundation day
PANJIM: Tiatr Academy of Goa will celebrate its 5th Foundation Day today, February 2.
On the occasion, TAG has organized a symposium on the topic ‘Her bhasantlea nattkamcher adharun tiatr boroupachi goroz asa?’ Tomazinho Cardozo, former President of TAG and a well-known writer / director of tiatr and Shridhar Kamat Bambolkar, a well-known dramatist, will be the main speakers. The symposium will begin at 3 pm at the Conference Hall of Tiatr Academy Goa, Block A, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Campal, Panjim and will be followed by a cultural programme of songs, music and skits by well-known tiatr artistes.
Two-day nutrition and health camp
PANJIM: Community Food and Nutrition extension unit, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt of India, based at Porvorim, organized a two-day orientation training course in nutrition and health on January 29 and 30 at Krantinagar, St Pedro, Tiswadi.
Rs 3.5 lakh property gutted
MARGAO: A residential house at Benaulim was gutted in a fire on Friday morning.
Owner Pascoal Fernandes told newsmen that property worth Rs 3.5 lakh has been destroyed in the fire.
The incident occurred at around 9.15 in the morning when fire engulfed the house, which later spread. Fire brigade, which rushed to the spot, managed to later bring the fire under control.
Neighbours joined the fire fighting operation by removing furniture and other consumer goods from the house.
Two-wheeler thefts reported
MARGAO: Margao Police Station received two cases of two-wheeler thefts. In the first incident, Aditiya Y Kamat, resident of Chamundi Apartments, Pajifond, complained that his Hero Splendor, GA-02-N-3064, which was parked outside in an open place was stolen by unknown persons.
In the second case, one Domingos Goes of Sernabatim stated in his complain to the Colva police that his Activa scooter, GA-08-U-1901, which was parked near a guest house at Acsona Benaulim could not be traced.
Case against four for restraining
MARGAO: On a complaint filed by Antonio Pango, Arlem, Raia, owner of a tourist taxi, the Colva police have registered an offence under section 341, 506 read with 34 IPC against Nevidade Costa, John D’costa and two other (names not known), all residents of Mobor, for restraining and threatening the complainant. Pango in his complaint alleged that he had driven his Innova to the Holiday Inn Resort, Mobor, on January 31, to pick up some guests when he was restrained and threatened. Colva police are investigating.
Bouncer’s bail plea rejected
MARGAO: South Goa additional & sessions judge, Desmond D’Costa, has rejected the bail application of accused bouncer Xavier D’Costa, who is in custody of Colva police in connection with the murder of the 25-year-old youth from Chennai. The accused along with his accomplice Basilio alias Pokod Ratos from Benaulim are booked for the murder of the Chennai youth Madan G at mid-night of January 13 after altercation over serving of drinks at a shack. Pokod, who escaped from police custody, is still at large.
