As and when Manohar Parrikar takes over as the Defence Minister it could well be one of the greatest leap of a politician in Indian politics. It may be recalled that Manohar Parrikar has been the first politician in the country to propose the name of Narendra Modi for Prime Ministership at a convention held in the state.
There is a close bonding between the two and Goa will stand to gain from this mutual understanding. Now being raised to the post of the Defence Minister must be considered a meteoric rise for a politician who deserves all the praise and accolades. From serving 15 lakh Goans to guarding 125 crore Indians as Defence Minister is indeed a giant leap.
This indeed makes every Goan proud that the son-of-the-soil has achieved so much at a relatively young age as far as politics is concerned. Parrikar is known for his decisive action and clean image and his taking over the Defense Ministry comes at the right moment when there have been questionable defense deals coupled with accidents on the submarines and of course guarding the country borders against a hostile neighbor like Pakistan.
Indeed Parrikar has a wider role to play and the country needs his vision and foresightedness at this crucial juncture when cross-border terrorism is on the rise. Probably the greatest challenge.
