Vehicle set ablaze at Sangolda
CALANGUTE: A four-wheeler was set on fire at Mae De Deus Waddo, Sangolda, on Thursday. According to Calangute Police, Ajay Parsekar of Sangolda accused two persons of setting his vehicle (GA-03-P-5814 on fire, causing a loss of Rs 1.25 lakh. Head Constable N Ekawade is investigating the case.
Saligao local dies in mishap
PORVORIM: A scooterist from Saligao died, while an unidentified pedestrian was injured in a road accident at Dhupem-Ucassaim. According to Mapusa Police, Avdhoot Mapari was proceeding on his scooter (GA-03-S-7154) from Ucassaim towards Guirim when he knocked down the lady pedestrian. Police further informed that Mapari went ahead and rammed into a roadside compound wall, injuring himself. Mapari succumbed to injuries at GMC Hospital in Bambolim. PSI S Hunsakutti is investigating.
Body found in sea at Morjim
TIVIM: A body of an unidentified female was found floating in the sea at Vithaldas Wadda, Morjim, on Thursday. According to Pernem Police, the body of the deceased, who is suspected to be in her early thirties, was preserved in GMC morgue in Bambolim. PI Tushar Lotlikar is investigating.
Shigao man arrested for assault
COLLEM: Collem Police arrested a 38-year-old resident of Shigao on charges of assaulting a man from Matoge-Shigao on Thursday. According to Collem Police, Yeshwant Sawant (40) complained that the accused, Shashikant Sawant, assaulted him with a chopper on his head and his forearm, thereby causing him injuries. The motive for the assault is some property dispute. The accused was arrested and later released on bail. Head Constable G Patil is investigating.
Firearm, gun stolen from Britona
PORVORIM: A firearm and 12 bore single barrel gun were stolen from a house in Penha-de-France. According to Porvorim Police, Shatrughan Shetye, residing at Britona House, Penha-de-France, complained that between 8.30 am on May 17 and 8.30 am on May 20, some person entered the room by opening the window of the kitchen and stole a firearm and 12 bore single barrel gun, worth Rs 3,500. ASI K Sawant is investigating the case.
Bike stolen at Baina
VASCO: A motorcycle was reported stolen from an open place at Patrong-Baina.According to Vasco Police, Adam Shah Makandar, residing near Brahmasthal Temple, Petrong-Baina, complained that some person stole his motorcycle (GA-02-L-7286), worth Rs 15,000. Vasco Police is investigating the case.
Shiroor school excels at ICSE exams
PANJIM: Green Valley National School and PU College Shiroor achieved 100 per cent result in ICSE exams 2014. This is the 7th consecutive year that the school has achieved this feat. Out of 45 students 43 secured First Class and Distinction. Chetan P and Nikita Rao are the toppers scoring 92 per cent. Pratwish Mestha scored 90 per cent while Apurva Gopal Nayak scored 89 per cent. On behalf of the management, Chairman Syed Abdul Kader Bashu congratulated the students.
Fr Vaz’s silver jubilee of Priesthood
PANJIM: The Parish Priest of St Rita of Cascia Church, Fr Anthony Vaz completed 25 years of priesthood on May 22, which is also his birthday.
Fr Vaz was born in 1962 in Tabora , Africa (Tanzania) and arrived in Goa in 1966. After his schooling at Loyola’s Margao, he entered the Seminary of Saligao in 1977. He completed his years of philosophy and theology in Rachol Seminary and his Regency in Quelossim and Shiroda Churches. He was ordained priest on May 22, 1989 in the Church of Our Lady of Remedios. Betalbatim by then Archbishop-patriarch Raul Nicolau Gonsalves and was appointed as Assistant Priest at St Michaels Church, Taleigao. He has served at Holy Spirit Church Margao and St Alex Church Curtorim. He was Vicar at Our Lady of Desterro Church, Vasco and manager of the School. He was also the dean of Mormugao Deanery. He served at Holy Trinity Church Benaulim and also managed the St Aloysius School. He was also dean of Benaulim Deanery. He also manages St Rita’s School, Maina-Curtorim.
