Many expect life to be fair. But “Life is not fair”. We see a child born disabled, another is born blind while another makes others blind. Therefore, we have to know this fact that, “Life is not fair”. We live with people of different religious, creeds and languages. Most of the time there is peaceful co-existence. However, there are times when differences of opinion crop up and often it leads to violence that results in suffering and bloodshed. Life is a complicated communication on the bright and dark side of life, in which individuals pass through variety of experiences of unity and disunity.
The bright side of life includes positive experiences — success, happiness that bring us inner peace and a feeling of well-being with helpful relationships among whom we spend moments of joy and laughter. It is unity of togetherness, with a sense of oneness. In short, it is well-balanced cooperation like a team working towards a common objective.

The dark side of life, involves negative experiences — sufferings, failures, sorrow and disunity, leading to breakdown among relations or groups due to erosion of trust, weakening of unity and causing emotional pain. The dark side of life is worst when stung by the scorpion of jealousy. Some people cannot stomach the success of others. On the dark side of life, we come across those poisonous-minded persons, who push their contenders down the platform of success, so as to pitch themselves high, often, by spreading rumours. This is very well explained by the song: “Bikariak Bhikariachi Nosai” (Beggar envies other beggars) by Agnelo Silveira de Chorao.
In the Bible, Joseph’s own brothers were so jealous of him that they banished him and sold him into slavery (Genesis 37), yet God raised Joseph to great power that his own brothers had to come to him for help, later.
Within close-knit communities and families, jealousy often forms divisive groups; they even expect other person to die, of whom they are envious. Such undercurrent forces at work cause negative consequences making some ignored members feel excluded and unwelcome at functions by hurting their feelings; consider this instance given below where deeds prove their intention: By sending a card of dress code through mobile to all relatives for a party; but deliberately omitting to send or mention the ‘dress code’ in the oral invitation to the envious family members, so that they should feel insulted at the gathering as “Odd man out” among family members and the invited public. Such jealous people are generally unhappy individuals, they are never happy in any situations. By being jealous of others, they are turning a blind eye to the immense capacity which God has given them.
People pass through the bright and dark side of life. Stephen Grellet says, “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” Therefore, I conclude with the words of Audrey Hepburn, “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others, for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”
