The latest buzz in Goa revolves around only one topic: Elections! Elections! And how can we not forget when it is happening on Feb 14. This day alarms us of manifold responsibilities.
Time has always given us enough reasons as excuses that we would demand for this day. But to our fortunate luck; Genie, in the form of higher authorities has granted us an auspicious ‘day-off’ legally, to choose not a partner but a leader.

Voting is our fundamental right and we must be proud to own it. Often the youth lack interest in politics and why is that so? Or what discourages them to vote?
At times the youth are unaware of the voting system and are caught in a web of narratives, set by the society. And this reason is highlighted because they cannot decide whom to vote for as the influence is large. Neither your kin nor your neighbour should carry your vote away, to the undeserving candidates.
As an individual don’t you think your voice deserves to be heard? There might be a difference of opinions but what’s the harm? If you can decide on a partner than why not your leader?
Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President of America quoted, “We do not have government by the majority, we have government by the majority who participate.”
Jefferson here rightly imposes the idea of ‘Every vote counts’ and indeed one vote can swing an entire election and certainly the courage of the youth will help to determine the future of Goa.
India has always been a democratic country and we Goans should aim to keep at it because democracy belongs to those who exercises the belief in it. With all the attention that Goa has been getting due to elections on social media, we must understand that an eye has been set on us and this responsibility should come from within; it is personal. The enthusiasm and zeal of the upcoming elections is visibly seen not just amongst the candidates but also the voters who are equally excited about the same.
This Valentine’s day as we celebrate love which stands for respect and kindness, so should we apply the said qualities to our leaders as well. One should not be encouraged with the media and judge the political leaders instantly on their personal past but rather learn and witness their work for the betterment of the society. Remember the good social work is not always captured on the camera and this defines the true quality of a remarkable leader.
As responsible citizens, we ought to encourage our family and friends to cast their vote smartly.
To my zealous voters, your vote is your privilege; your duty, your right. You do have a choice, of your voice.
Your vote will be counted, a winner will be named. Either a ring on your ring finger, or the ink on your index finger. You will succeed, and so will your deed!
Let us celebrate this festival of democracy wisely and safely by following all the protocols of Covid-19.
So, buckle up and celebrate this day with your loved ones while you choose a leader who will love and celebrate your “Mogachem Goem”.
