The words nationalism and patriotism are synonymous. Whereas nationalism means patriotic feelings or principles the word patriotism means allegiance/loyalty to one’s country. Quite surprisingly a lot of heat is being generated over the Surgical Strikes carried out by the Indian army into POK causing substantial damage to terror outfits. It is believed many terrorists were killed. Whenever terrorists terrorise and kill innocent people it is the duty of the army to draw up contingency plans and submit to the government in power how best the army can deal with such situations. Then it is for the Government of India to decide to give green signal for the army to carry out the surgical strikes which are often code worded.
The Government of India in 2008 had one such opportunity to carry out surgical strikes over the terror training camps across the LOC in PoK when Pakistani terrorists crossed over on to our soil and killed over 166 innocent people and destroyed private and national properties during the Mumbai attacks. In all probabilities the army then must have drawn up contingency plans and submitted to the then Government of India which took no action and which in turn precipitated further incursions by terror outfits. The fact Pakistan is allowing on its soil over a dozen terror outfits is a proof the country is a safe haven for terrorists. But how did UPA Government then forget these terrorists had trespassed the sovereignty of our land and committed a genocide?
What the Government of India has done now is a step that was long necessitated. The credit goes to the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister and to our commandos who have successfully carried our these surgical strikes. However it may be an euphoria for now for all Indians, but it may also be the beginning of another violent chapter. Islamic State may soon join the terror outfits in Pakistan because when Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was formed Pakistani and Afghanistan terror outfits were in the forefront fighting the British and American forces in Iraq from 2003.
The question arises as to why certain political parties in India are asking for a proof of surgical strikes. These political parties or politicians lack Nationalism and Patriotism. Surgical strikes are national secrets which cannot be disclosed to the public as such information can help the enemy to counter any offensive in future. India has been a tolerant country and we paid the price for being tolerant. Needless to mention the surgical strikes have pushed up the support of the people for the BJP governance.
Cutting across religious, caste or community lines it is a time to remain united and face all eventualities that may come and support our government as Pakistani government is sheltering and supporting the terror outfits.
