W e are grateful that Goa has been chosen to hoist the BRICS summit. What our state government could not do in four and a half years of their rule in Goa the BRICS summit has done so. This credit also goes to the Def Expo which was held here.
In one month’s time we will have no garbage on the streets from Dabolim right up to Cavelossim, the streets will be spurs and clean, the trees in these areas will be trimmed, the roads will be wide and pot-hole free with a layer of hotmix, no more speed breakers of different size specifications to deter motorists driving on these roads to beware of unwanted speed breakers. Rumblers to be fitted with cat eyes to warn them of the same, new sign boards to be placed to warn vehicle drivers of the impending dangers ahead of them, illuminated street lights and beautification of places that our Government which was sleeping for so many years will now have to do in order to make a good impression of the delegates coming for two summits from different nations a success. Putting in place good communication facilities and CCTV cameras everywhere.
If these things could be done now, why was the same not done a long time ago? You want to impress the nations other than your own locals who give you the power to rule us. We can now see the difference between a local who has been shouting from the top of the roof for better roads, electricity, water supplies etc, is now doing all these things for a two-day summit. This is sheer hypocrisy.
I hope the delegates do not ask for sightseeing in the North Goa or in the hinterland because that is where they will be caught on the wrong foot when they see the infrastructure there with pothole ridden roads and big ugly buildings that have come up in the fields, stray cattle on the roads, bent lamp post and half of these not even illuminated. We want more international conferences to be held in Goa so at least the people of Goa will benefit from these summits.
