Harman Baweja, the actor who is basking in the limelight on the success of his TV series ‘SCOOP ‘for portraying ACP Shroff says “I used to hide newspapers from my mother in my initial bad days because of lot of media criticism, and she used to search and search”.
That reminds me of my childhood days when hide and seek was our favourite game. To hide in a very difficult, inaccessible place and get caught was fun and thrilling experience for either side.

Actually we play hide and seek in our day-to-day life too. Though in different ways –take politics for instance. After election results, winning MLAs are literally kidnapped and ‘hidden’ in plush 5star hotels and the other parties are clueless where to ‘seek’ them. And once caught they do ‘setting’ with unaccounted huge ‘hidden’ cash!
Daily we hear news about ED raiding offices, big houses and bungalows, searching (seeking) unaccounted wealth and stacks and bundles of ‘hidden’ cash. This is true as police, CID and other intelligence agencies who are constantly ‘seeking’ to nab the fugitives who go in ‘hiding’ after committing crimes.
At any international airports, custom officials are on their toes to ‘seek’ any contraband goods (gold biscuits, narcotics et al) ‘hidden’ in different innovative ways such as dolls, leather belts, walking stick, frozen fish, live puppies or even stuffing and hiding into own body parts.
Life is constant ‘hide and seek’ game. A poor man has to ‘hide’ his poverty to ‘seek’ his grownup daughter’s matrimony. Rich man ‘seeks’ loopholes and takes various illegal routes to ‘hide’ his money from the tax net.
Lovers in arms always ‘seek’ in each other’s eyes to know about their ‘hidden’ feelings. In jungles when lion and other wild animals hunt and ‘seek’ for the prey, antelopes and other creatures run for their life and ‘hide’ in bushes and caves.
Hollywood directors and producers have over the time produced innumerable films and are still making films with same title ‘hide and seek’! Not to mention about Korean, Japanese and Israel counterparts, besides Disney world to say the least.
Going little back and trekking our history lessons, we find that Shivaji Maharaj won Maratha battles against Mughals by adopting ‘hide and seek’ games (Gunimi cava, better known as guerrilla tactics) which later were adopted and played by sandalwood smuggler Virappan, though for wrong reasons.
Having said that, every human being has hidden talent. One must ‘seek’ his/her ‘hidden’ talents to blossom, by giving exposure to it. Here parents and teachers have a great role.
We all humans ‘seek’ God all our life visiting holy places without realising God is hidden in every one of us!
Anyway after Baweja’s success, hidden newspapers are now irrelevant for his mother but since she was searching (seeking), during actor’s tough period throughout, did she manage to find even one, is anybody’s guess!
