Representatives…!

A person cannot be present in multiple places, and it is made sure that when there are occasions, a representative is sent to do the formalit; be it weddings, birthdays or any other occasion that we celebrate. Like, family get-togethers, functions of friends or close associates. For life is a gift of celebration. Just as we sent representatives to these functions and occasions, there is a representation made by dignitaries for various summits, orientations, seminars, programmes organised and conducted at the state level, national and even international. This has been a practice since long when one cannot make ends meet.
Similarly people elect their representatives and send them to the Assembly as MLAs and MPs. The main aim and goal being to be the voice of people, to make their grievances heard, the struggles in galore, the troubles and needs that need to be addressed. To raise the voice in their name against discrepancies, malfunctioning, corruption, and the like. The nationalisation of the rivers, the coal issue, RP2021, the PDA, ODP, mining, jobs and now the Formalin!
It’s strange to see and believe how the chosen representatives of the Legislative Assembly misuse their freedom of speech and make derogatory remarks! It’s sad to hear things when there are ample of issues to be addressed and the government taken to task. The CRZ issue is alarming! From 200 metres, now those sitting there have decreased or want to decrease it to 50 metres. It is said God provides for your need and not for your greed. Just as the chameleon changes its colour so are our chosen representatives, who change parties and sometimes being in the same party, they behave as the psalmist says: “they have eyes but they do not see; they have ears but they do not hear; they have mouth but there’s never a word on their lips” and when they do speak it is not for right reasons but rather to divert the focus of current prevailing issues!
The recent remark made by Senior Rane was not expected. Especially at a time when for so long the government had withheld jobs because of the absence in chair of the chief minister. When the jobs are on contract system e.g. the guards at the GMC… and so on. Truth is bitter and hard to digest, when the jobs are withheld from the catholic community at the behest of those in command!
There is no shame to hold a broom and sweep the streets; to hold a mop and clean the floor and at the same time flush the toilets. Any work has its dignity of labour. And it pays. If the government today and in those bygone years had given jobs with decent salary with fifty, sixty thousand, we would not find people leaving their homeland to make a living. To give their loved ones a decent living when the markets are controlled by the elected representatives; when the rates of fish and vegetables are fixed by these mafia jargons!
Lord set a guard over their lips and teach them your ways.
