All human species have the inclination to show off. But some do not keep their showness within sensible limits. Therefore, their behaviour exhibits their inner thoughts and feelings.
Some unhappy attention seekers wish to be in the spotlight. They believe that they are the wisest and the brightest knowledgeable people. They criticize everything — from politicians to weather forecasts, from world affairs to rural lifestyles, nothing escapes their eyes. They do not have even an ounce of respect for others’ opinions. Their attitude is “My way is high way.” Often, when these folks open their mouth their words becomes a cutting dart and listeners get the feeling that they are in dictatorial regime with no freedom of speech.
There are some Homo sapiens who proudly unfold their talents to attract others towards them by forcing them to see their skill — in music, dancing, singing and so on. It is a great occasion for them to blow their own trumpet at birthday party, house-warming functions and at other social events. They feel there is no ‘maza’ at occasion without them. They take over the social gathering, without being told to do so; which often irritates the host.
Some species have the extreme inclination to sing their own praises to anyone who is willing to listen. They talk about their family’s greatness in caste; in social status; in earning a living and in touring the world which, they say, made them to acquire high personal standard of dress and good conduct. They are like the peacock straining its tail as wide as it can to make a broad and gorgeous fan. But often the behaviour betrays their family greatness as they make others feel far, far below their claimed family superiority.
Some showy individuals, at their workplace, draw attention on self; by working as ‘chamcha’ of the boss and do ‘dadagiri’ with weak staff members with unkindly words that start a laugh among the spectating employees. When these showmen fly their kite too high they become a dominating bully. It spoils office decorum and discipline and reflects on the inefficiency of the office manager.
Flashy females overdress to attract and hold the attention of men which according to a quotable quote “are like a good speech — long enough to cover all the vital points and short enough to rouse interest.” The effect of such a bent of exhibitionism leads to absurd fashions and loose morality.
Showy people want praises from certain persons who are important to them. It makes them as merry as mice in malt. But if they fail in their mission they feel bad like the ocean that groans at a distance wailing over its inability to devour the land.
As showy individuals are born showy; pass their time in showiness and end their days with show off; when they start getting on your nerves, you show it with your body language that you are hearing without listening. If that does not work politely excuse yourself. We shouldn’t waste our time listening to those who only want to talk about themselves all the time.
