Suffering helps Spiritual Growth

You are spiritually evolved when you understand and empathize more and are kinder than others. Yet, you suffer more than anyone can endure. So why becoming more spiritual means more suffering?
Our soul needs love, acceptance, faith, hope, virtue, and beauty in our lives. When we come across an experience that triggers a loss, we suffer. Suffering is but an experience. We may see them as something horrible or cruel because it doesn’t feel good. But there is a purpose for suffering that plays in with spiritual evolution.
If we had not suffered, we would not have evolved. It means that you are understanding and learning your life lessons. And it means that you are closer to transcending your current reality. The higher evolved you are, the bigger the test you will experience. It does not mean that suffering is better or that you should be glad to suffer. It means that by knowing you are not feeling good, it is a signal for you to move forward the right path. During the process of transcending, we undergo death – death of the ego. But with every death comes the revival of the Phoenix, burning it’s ashes and rising into a new person.
When life is going well for us, we don’t feel the need for spirituality in our lives. Our material possessions become our comforts – friends, money, property, etc. But when something goes wrong or when we begin to lose our possessions, that is when we turn to spirituality. In suffering, man realises his condition of complete helplessness and is able to hear the divine words. He realises the illusion of his material possessions. And he begins to ask bigger questions and to seek higher answers. We seek the purpose of life. We transcend our selfishness and empathise in kindness with others. We find realisations that are difficult to acquire had we not suffered. Our understanding of other’s experience widens and we no longer judge them by our own standards. For without suffering, we may not feel the need to seek spirituality in our lives.
Suffering teaches us patience, tolerance, acceptance, happiness and letting go. It enables you to grow in patience, strength, purity, and into a higher evolved spiritual being. When you find yourself suffering, you also realise that you are stuck. Having awareness of being stuck allows you to get unstuck. We learn not to take things personally. We learn not to engage in situations that can cause harm. We learn our own anxiety, depression, and loneliness and how to overcome them.
We learn lessons through experience. And the best way to learn is to suffer the consequences. To know light, one must know darkness. Suffering is like the parent that tells you to eat your green spiritual vegetables. The more spiritual you are the harder the lessons. This is because the higher vibrations you are, the stronger the effect you cause the world. And if you attempt to advance more in your spiritual life, the faster and agonising lessons you will suffer. But through all lessons you have overcome, there will be spiritual peace and happiness and fulfillment.
