Public involvement and enthusiasm was new and never seen prior. The young blood didn’t shy off either. They were vocal, ready to challenge, were participative and supportive. Everybody seemed eager to see the change and support progressive prosperity. The turnout was sure in need for answers of soaring prices, mining affected people and for better education system in place. People were out here to elect the appropriate and not just grumble at the end.
Like every other election this one had their own set of shortfalls, misleads and plus points. But it had never been this competitive in past. Some appreciated the pink polling booths were as others criticised. But irrespective of opinions and criticism none could hamper the enthusiasm of voters. From first time voters to 80 year old women, they all walked in the polling booth with spark in their eyes and to realise their power of vote.
With list of candidates to choose from there is still speculation on wins. Some have cast their vote to their favored party, some have voted keeping in mind the contesting candidates, couple of them have tried out the new people hoping for positive change. Until the result day the conjectures will multiply ruining people’s sanity.
Will the resulting government work in faith of people or seat around. Will we have a new beginning or are we up for stagnation? Goa is suffering from some serious hunchbacks which need attention and repair.
The drug menace is known to everyone but eradication hasn’t seen concrete result. The unemployed thanks to mining disruption is hoping for some favorable change post the elections. They are eyeing to get back on track in terms of their working life.
The local residents had enough with soaring land prices and inability to purchase it. The result of this inability is outsiders, who are grabbing our land at relatively high price. The outsiders have also captured our market. They can be seen in every strata of trade causing tiff with the local traders.
The youth are looking towards employment on the basis of merit and not on caste or paid seats. They want equal opportunities to move forward with stride and not stagnate due to lack of funds to bribe. They want to benefit from the education they are parted with and not just graduate with a degree at the end of three or four years of college.
This time around people aren’t just looking forward to forming of government, they want some serious work to be done. They want the elected candidates to work towards progress and bring about change. They don’t want their leaders to seat around and do nothing. This time it is not about what they have done or will do. It is time to see them act and to do what they have been elected for.
