Bengaluru Quarry Collapse: FIR Alleges Gross Negligence, Lack of Safety Measures Behind Seven Deaths

A First Information Report (FIR) filed in connection with the quarry collapse on the outskirts of Bengaluru, which claimed seven lives, has accused quarry owners, supervisors and machinery operators of gross negligence, alleging that workers were made to continue operations despite serious safety risks.

The complaint, lodged by a worker at the Tavarekere Police Station, states that the incident occurred around 7.30 am at a stone quarry operated by Kaveri Company in Huluvanehalli village near Madapattana. According to the FIR, labourers were drilling holes with the help of tractor-mounted compressors when a massive section of rock collapsed.

The complainant alleged that workers had not been provided with basic safety gear and that no proper inspection or risk assessment was conducted to determine whether the rock face was stable before work commenced.

The FIR also claims that excavation was taking place simultaneously at the adjacent Basaveshwara Stone Quarry, owned by Anandaswamy. It alleges that quarry operator Pandu and excavator driver Tirupathi continued excavation work despite being aware that their activities could weaken the neighbouring rock face and increase the likelihood of a collapse.

Police have registered the case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including allegations of negligence and violations of workplace safety norms.
