India and the four-member Visegrad Group of Central European nations have agreed to strengthen cooperation in political, economic and defence sectors during their first-ever foreign ministers’ meeting.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar described the meeting as a “new historic occasion” as India and the Visegrad Group countries explored ways to deepen their partnership.

The Visegrad Group, comprising the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, is a regional alliance focused on cooperation in areas including defence, economic development, culture and energy.
The inaugural India-Visegrad Group foreign ministers’ meeting was held on Monday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Jaishankar participated in the meeting alongside Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski, Hungary’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Anita Orban, Slovakia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanar, and Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka.
Speaking after the meeting, Jaishankar highlighted the significance of the gathering, describing it as a new milestone in relations between India and the Central European grouping.
The meeting is expected to provide a platform for India and the Visegrad countries to expand engagement across political, economic and security-related areas.
