A violent stabbing incident on a train traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross has left ten people injured, nine critically, as the British authorities declared a major incident and launched a counter-terrorism aided investigation. The attack occurred on Saturday evening shortly after the train left Peterborough station, prompting the train to make an emergency stop at Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire.
Passengers described terrifying scenes of chaos and panic, with victims and bystanders attempting to flee or hide from a man wielding a large knife who indiscriminately attacked multiple travelers. Eyewitnesses reported some passengers hiding in lavatories while others were trampled as they tried to escape the violence.

Armed police quickly responded upon the train’s arrival at Huntingdon, where two men were arrested in connection with the stabbing. One suspect was reportedly subdued with a Taser during the arrests. Emergency services including ambulances and air ambulances rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, where nine remain in life-threatening condition.
The British Transport Police initially declared a “Plato” alert — the national code for marauding terror attacks but later rescinded it. The motive behind the attack has not yet been determined, and authorities urged the public not to speculate as investigations continue with counter-terrorism support.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the assault as “horrendous,” extending sympathies to the victims and praising the swift action of emergency responders. Train services on the East Coast Main Line remain disrupted while police continue their inquiries. Witnesses and anyone with information have been urged to come forward to aid the investigation.
