An accidental explosion ripped through the Nowgam police station in Srinagar on the night of November 14, 2025, causing the deaths of nine people and injuring 27 others, officials confirmed. The explosion happened while the police and forensic team were extracting samples from a large cache of explosives recovered from the Faridabad terror module tied to the doctors involved in the Red Fort blast case.
Union Home Ministry’s Joint Secretary Prashant Lokhande said the explosives were securely stored within the police station’s premises and were being handled cautiously under expert supervision. Due to the unstable and sensitive nature of the chemicals, the examination process was ongoing for two days. Unfortunately, an accidental detonation occurred around 11:20 pm, killing nine—including police personnel, forensic experts, revenue officials, and civilians—and severely injuring dozens more.

The massive blast also caused extensive structural damage to the Nowgam police station and surrounding buildings. Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Nalin Prabhat ruled out sabotage, confirming the blast was accidental. The government has expressed condolences to victims’ families and announced a thorough investigation into the incident.
The explosives were part of evidence turned over from a terror module uncovered after threatening posters targeted security forces in the Nowgam area. The investigation into this case had led to multiple arrests, with explosives seized from locations including Faridabad, Haryana.
