Eighty-four MBA students from Pune’s Indira School of Business Studies (ISBS), along with faculty, are stranded in Dubai due to escalating West Asia tensions following US-Israeli strikes on Iran and the reported killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The group was on a five-day academic study tour in the UAE. Institute officials stated 40 students were set to return Saturday, with 44 more on Sunday. Sudden airspace closures triggered mass flight cancellations, including UAE routes, leaving them unable to board.
All students and staff are safe, relocated to a Dubai hotel. We’re in constant contact, ISBS Dean Janardhan Pawar confirmed.
Indira Group Chairperson Tarita Shankar added they’re coordinating with India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Civil Aviation for swift return once flights resume. Alternative options are under review.
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister’s Office posted on X Saturday: State officials are monitoring, liaising with the Centre, and updating families. Parents expressed relief over safety but anxiety over delays. India’s aviation regulator warned carriers against West Asian airspace amid “significant security risks” from retaliatory strikes.
The conflict has rerouted global flights, stranding thousands. Families await clearances as tensions simmer, return hinges on stabilizing the volatile region.
