Private professional colleges across Telangana have launched an indefinite strike from Monday, forcing the closure of nearly 1,500 institutions, including engineering, pharmacy, MBA, and degree colleges. The shutdown has disrupted academic schedules and left thousands of students without classes, prompting widespread appeals to postpone upcoming university examinations.
The protest, spearheaded by the Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Institutions (FATHI), is aimed at pressuring the state government to immediately release long-pending fee reimbursement and scholarship dues.

According to FATHI representatives, the government owes private colleges nearly ₹10,000 crore under the Reimbursement of Tuition Fee (RTF) and Maintenance Fee (MTF) schemes, which are designed to support students from economically weaker sections.
College managements have warned that unless the dues are cleared soon, they will be unable to pay staff salaries and maintain infrastructure, further deepening the crisis in the state’s higher education sector.
