PANJIM: A total of 10,84,271 persons will be eligible to exercise their franchise in the coming elections to State Assembly due in early 2017. The final list of voters was published by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday.

PANJIM: A total of 10,84,271 persons will be eligible to exercise their franchise in the coming elections to State Assembly due in early 2017. The final list of voters was published by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday.
Nearly 15,877 names have been deleted from the list, which includes 884 voters, who have opted for foreign nationality, and 5620 who passed away.
As per the final list prepared by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), under guidance of ECI, 24,906 new names were added during the summary revision undertaken between October and December 2015. 
Joint CEO Narayan Navti said that of the 10,84,271 voters, 5,48,097 are female while 5,36,174 are male. “As on January 1, 2015, the total voters in Goa were 10,71,707, which went up to 10,75,242 during the additional draft electoral roll undertaken in October, last year,” he said. 
Navti said that 15,877 names have been deleted from the voters list. He said they received around 5,200 applications for deletion of their names. “The others include those found not staying and had shifted during their inspection,” he said.
“Around 884 have obtained foreign nationality and their names were deleted,” the officer added.
