PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday assured the Goa Legislative Assembly that 1.2 kms of the remaining work of the Western Bypass road will be constructed on stilts.
This, he said, will be as per the recommendations of the 10-member panel appointed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
Speaking on the concluding day of the two-day Assembly session, the CM informed the House that the project of 11.09 kms length is expected to be completed by October 19, 2022 as stated in the contract letter. The entire cost of the project is Rs 148.41 crore awarded to agency V K Rao Ltd. As of now, work of 8.87 kms is complete, said CM.
As per modified scope of the Margao Western Bypass project and with High Court of Bombay at Goa monitoring the matter, out the balance work of 2.75 kms, 1.2 kms road will be elevated structure including approach road whereas the remaining 1.55 km will be on embankment.
“High Court has passed the order to clear all the obstruction with police protection and to ensure the balance work is expedited,” said CM.
He also brought to the notice of the House petitions filed by activist before the relevant authorities even as the High Court is hearing suo moto matter from 2015 year.
During the supplementary demand, Opposition MLAs Digambar Kamat, Vijai Sardesai and Venzy Viegas sought for ensuring the balance work is built on stilts to avoid flooding in nearby areas.
The bypass goes through the shoulder of Margao city, Fatorda and Benaulim areas.
