Herald: The choice had to be made between giving SEZ promoters 30% the land or not getting anything due to litigation Franky: It was shocking to read that the government was in talks with the SEZ promoters in a bid to unlock the almost 40 lakh sq mts of land currently in litigation before the Supreme Court. An announcement was also made that
30% of the illegally allotted land will still be reserved for the SEZ promoters in a bid to get the SEZ Promoters to withdraw their litigation. It is astonishing to see our Chief Minister repeatedly fooling the Legislative Assembly and the people
of Goa on various issues. Our Chief Minister appears to be unaware or deliberately acting to be unaware of an appeal
also filed by Franky Monteiro v/s State of Goa in the Supreme Court bearing Supreme Court Civil Appeal No 9710/2013 praying that the other prayers in his writ petition No 316/2008 before the H’ble High Court be granted. Herald: Will you oppose this proposal? Franky: It should be known that no backdoor dealings can be finalized by the Government and the SEZ Pomoters and no decision can be taken
by the government in respect to the said land until
the appeal filed by me is disposed by the Supreme
Court. Such vague and arbitrary announcements
give the impression that SEZ activists are also
involved in these backdoor dealings or the
expectations of the people are that activists should
once again renew their agitations.
Herald: What do you want?
Franky: SEZ Virodhi Manch demands that the
entire land should either be reverted back to the
original owners or alternatively be used for public
projects like hospitals, institutes, sports city, etc in
absolute accordance to the wishes of the people
of the villages concerned.
