QUEPEM: Vaccination against COVID was always going to be a massive challenge not only in the city and towns of the State but also especially in the villages where there is no connectivity with regular roads.

In a most challenging task a vaccination camp was held at the remote village of Vavurla situated on the top of a hill falling under Barcem Village Panchayat of Quepem Taluka.

The only access to this village is from Gaodongari (Canacona). However, those visiting Vavurla have to trek the distance to the village through the hills from Gaodongari.

It was a big challenge for the doctors and medical staff who attended the camp because of the logistics issue, since carrying the equipment for the vaccination was an arduous job.

The nurses who do the tedious job of carrying out vaccination, sources said, were thrilled as they vaccinated a 105-year-old citizen Shanu Velip. Vavurla comes under the Balli PHC and its villagers suffer because of no access to medical help, said a senior citizen from the village.

The vaccination drive, headed by Health officer Dr Tulsimamta Kakodkar and a team of doctors and nurses, received a good response from the villagers.

Dy CM Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar had taken special effort to get the villagers vaccinated against COVID-19 and make sure that vaccination should be 100 per cent in the area.

Local panchas Shradha Velip, Sada Velip, Ulhas Velip, Adarsh Velip and Suresh Velip were present.
