PANJIM: Aggrieved employees of 108 Ambulance Service on Tuesday threatened to go on indefinite strike from January 7 if their demands are not met and alleged harassment against them not stopped, according to resolution passed by the newly formed ‘108 Ambulance Service Employees Union’ at its first meeting.
“The union has unanimously resolved that if the management does not stop harassing the employees immediately…we will go on indefinite strike from January 7 for which the Goa government and management will be held responsible,” Union President Anand Gaude said.
He claims that the union formed under the banner Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (Goa), has a membership of 120 employees which include pilots, emergency medical technicians among others.
The association has alleged that the EMRI management has failed to take care of its staffers who work 12 hours a day but are paid for only eight hours. Moreover, there are no safety precautions for women staffers and neither changing nor wash rooms for its employees.
“If there is any damage to the Ambulance, the management deducts it from our paltry salary we are paid. Several requests have hit deaf ears. A 15-day ultimatum has been served on the government and memorandum to meet our demands, failing which, we will stage an indefinite strike January 7 onwards,” Gaude said in the presence of general secretary Vikas Talekar and others.
The union members have also demanded pay scale on par with government employees, paid holidays, dearness allowance, earned, casual and sick leave, overtime and other facilities.
