PANJIM: Over 10,000 individuals are direct beneficiaries of the government’s ambitious Swayampurna Goa initiative that completed one year on Saturday.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’, on October 2, 2020 Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had sent out a clarion call to make Goa Swayampurna.

Sawant on Saturday reviewed the programme through a virtual interaction with Swayampurna mitras, sarpanchas and panch members. An official website and portal was also launched, through which, the Chief Minister will monitor the progress of the initiative.
Speaking during the interaction, Sawant said that the Prime Minister will soon interact virtually with the Swayampurna mitra’s, local body representatives and beneficiaries. “We are yet to get the date for the programme. By October end, the PMO is likely to confirm the date,” he said.
Sawant said that in the last one year, 4,192 activities have taken place across 191 panchayats and 14 municipalities with Agriculture Department leading by conducting 2,223 activities.
Social Welfare Department held 183 activities, Directorate of Animal Husbandry held 181 activities in last one year, he said.
“As per the report, 10,144 individuals were direct beneficiaries of the programme,” he said adding that the programme was based on ten goals.
The ten goals include tap water connection for all houses, electricity connection for all houses, shelter for all, sanitation for all, krishi card, PM Kisan Credit Card and soil health card, aid for all divyangs, health security, social security, financial security and aid to senior citizens.
Sawant said that so far among talukas, Bardez is leading in achieving the goals, followed by Dharbandora, Pernem, Ponda, Bicholim and Sattari. “I am very proud to say that several villages have got 100 per cent coverage under the programme,” he said.
The Chief Minister appealed to all elected representatives, including Ministers and MLAs, to reach out to the people to ensure that they benefit from the programme.
Earlier, during the State-level function held on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Sawant said that the Swayampurna Goa
programme launched last year has made a big impact in the State. He said that through this programme 100 per cent population of Goa was able to get basic requirements.
“Our aim is to make Goa fully independent in its requirements especially in food items so that we are not dependent on other States. Swayampurna Mitras spread across the state are trying their best to reach various government schemes to the last person in the State,” he added.
