Instructions to cyber cafés
PANAJI: The District Magistrate, North Goa Panaji has ordered the owners of cyber cafes in North Goa to maintain a register for identity of the visitor and users of such Cyber Cafes. The order prohibits the use of cyber café by unknown person and whose identity has not been established by the owner of the café. The visitor, in his own handwriting must mention name, address, telephone number and identity proof. The identity of the visitor/user shall be established through Government Identity Card only. Activity server log should be preserved in main server and its record should be preserved for at least six months. This order comes into force from May 11 and shall be effective up to July 9.

Project proposals invited from NGOs
PANJIM: The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs has invited proposals from the State level NGOs for the Central Government Scheme of National Programme for Youth and Adolescent Development. The update guidelines for grants-in-aids under the scheme are available at the website of the ministry www.yas.nic.in. Proposals are now solicited from state governments and eligible state-level NGOs for conducting programmes under Promotion of National Integration, Promotion of Adventure and Empowerment and Development of Adolescent under the NPYAD Scheme. The project proposals from State-level NGOs are to be recommended by respective State governments and should be submitted to Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs by May 21. No parking zone at Campal
PANJIM: The District Magistrate, North Goa District, Panjim has declared ‘No Parking’ zone on one side of the road, from Pinto Arcade to Karimabad Society, Campal and ‘Parking’ on the other side of the road, from Landscape Sea View towards Karimabad Society, Campal. He has also authorized the erection of traffic sign boards.
Restrictions during SMC polls
PANJIM: Elections to the Sankhali Municipal Council is scheduled on May 12, between 7 am and 5 pm. In view of the same commercial establishments/eateries within 100 metres radius of the following polling stations have been ordered to remain closed (from 6 am to 6 pm on May 12): Polling station No 7 at Progress High School, polling station No 4 at Multipurpose Hall, and polling station No 6 at Laxmibai G Sanzgiri Memorial New Wada.
Scholarship for OBC students
PANJIM: Saral Vidhya Sahay (stipend to OBC students) will be granted @ Rs 225 to Rs 275 per month to students studying in Std V to X depending on class of studies. The total income of parents should not exceed Rs 1,50,000 per annum. Meritorious scholarships are also awarded to OBC students as follow: Rs 800 for students studying in V to VI, Rs 900 for classes VII to VIII, Rs 1000 for IX and Rs 1500 for X. Post-Matric scholarships will be awarded to OBC students depending on type of the course pursued. The scholarship varies from Rs 160 to Rs 750 per month. The income ceiling for availing this scholarship is Rs 1 lakh. Further, grants will be provided to professional institutions to purchase books under Book Bank scheme for the benefit of OBC students. Notice to mariners
PANJIM: The Captain of Ports has notified that the Aguada sand bar shall remain closed for all inland traffic vessels with effect from midnight on May 21. It is also notified that the lighthouses of Malim, Campal, Tejo Front and Tejo Rear, Reis Magos and Aguada Beacon will cease to function with effect from midnight of June 1, until further notice.
Gospel concert for old age homes
PANJIM: The Goa Christian Youth Welfare Association (GCYWA) will organize a Gospel concert in aid of old age homes in Goa on May 12, from 5 pm onwards at Kala Academy’s open air auditorium. Top musicians from Goa would entertain the residents of various old age homes who are the special invitees at the function. Nuvem constituency MLA Mickky Pacheco would be the chief guest while social worker and founder of Goan Citizens Welfare Trust Michael Fernandes would be the guest of honour.
Admissions at Don Bosco College
PANJIM: An entrance test for the BCA programme at Don Bosco College in Panjim will be conducted on May 13 and admissions will start from May 14 to 16. BSW, BA (Mass Media) and BBA (Travel and Tourism) programmes admissions will commence from May 13. BBA admissions will be after the UGAT results. For the BPEd programme admissions will be after the graduation results.
Education award for Dr Rita
PANJIM: The All India Association for Christian Higher Education (AIACHE) has conferred the Dr Sam Higginbottom Award for the best principals in India 2011 on Dr Rita Paes, Principal of Nirmala Institute of Education, Goa. Dr Rita received the award on May 1, at the AIACHE Conference held at Christ University, Bangalore.
Awards for inter-caste marriage
PANJIM: Awards of Rs 1lakh will be awarded to couples for inter-caste marriage, provided either spouse belongs to Scheduled Caste. The couple should apply through respective Block Development Officer after one year but before 3 years of marriage. Income certificate is not essential.
Youth Alive programme at Pilar

Directions to hotels, guesthouses
PANJIM: The District Magistrate, North Goa Panaji has ordered the owners /management of all hotels, lodging and boarding, private guest houses, paying guest accommodation of all religious bodies, not to allow any visitor/guest to check in without providing Government Identity Proof such as Smart Card, Voter Card, Driving License, Employment Card, ATM Card or any other photo identity card. The In-charge of such accommodation shall provide all such information for inspection to the Police Authority. The order comes into force with effect from May 11 and shall be effective up to July 9.
