Fourteen councillors of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) have moved a no-confidence motion against Deputy Chairperson Ramchandra Kamat, alleging a lack of consultation and unilateral decision-making in the functioning of the council.
The councillors have formally submitted the motion, citing dissatisfaction with the deputy chairperson’s style of functioning and claiming that important matters were being taken up without adequate discussion or consensus among elected representatives.
Along with the motion, the councillors have also sought the convening of a special council meeting to deliberate on the issue, in accordance with municipal rules. If the meeting is convened, the motion will be taken up for discussion and voting by the council.
The development has triggered political activity within the MMC, with sources indicating that the no-confidence move reflects growing internal differences within the municipal body. Further clarity is expected once the special council meeting is scheduled and official responses are received.
