PANJIM: The Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has decided to set up biomethanation plants across 14 urban local bodies for scientific treatment of bio-degradable waste generated by them.
GSUDA has also proposed to establish Material Recovery Facilities to treat non bio-degradable waste generated by the municipalities.
“Currently, 14 urban local bodies are handling and processing municipal solid waste generated within their jurisdiction. The total wet waste generation in the urban jurisdiction is around 160 MT, for which the urban local bodies are following a traditional method of windrow composting,” GSUDA said in the document inviting expression of interest.
It further said that the Department of Urban Development, Goa is proposing to adopt decentralised model for processing wet waste (biodegradable waste) by establishing biomethanation to scientifically process and treat bio-degradable waste generated by urban local bodies.
