PANJIM: Goa Police have prepared a list of as many as 1,500 persons with criminal records including proclaimed offenders, who would be kept under the radar, as the State gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Police sources said that 266 proclaimed offenders, 146 history sheeters and 100 persons with bad characters are amongst others identified as on February 17, 2019 as a part of the election exercise. These details, once the election code of conduct is enforced, will be submitted to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer for further action.
“The accused persons will be issued notice to appear before their respective police stations and sign a bond to not indulge in any criminal activities during the entire election process. At the same time, police teams will keep a watch on their daily activities. They will be arrested if the bond is violated,” said a senior police officer.
“The process of identifying more persons with criminal record is underway,” he added.
Around 902 criminals under Section 107 of CrPC (security for keeping the peace in other cases), 18 under Sec 109 (security for good behaviour from suspected persons) and 100 under Sec 110 CrPC (security for good behaviour from habitual offenders) are also identified as on date.
