165 persons held for smoking, 4 for drunken driving, 76 issued traffic challans in Calangute on New Year’s

CALANGUTE: The New Year 2019 was welcomed very joyfully at Calangute and Candolim last night amidst adequate police arrangements. A total of 165 persons were booked for smoking and spitting in public areas.
As per the Calangute PI, Jivba Dalvi the two places namely Calangute and Candolim have always been the main hub for New Year parties. This year as well several parties were hosted across the coastal belt. A large number of crowds were present in Calangute and Candolim to welcome the New Year.
In view of the security arrangements watch towers were setup at various strategic points. Apart from the staff of Calangute police station additional four platoons of the Reserve Battalion were deployed to avoid any untoward incident. 
Adequate staff was deployed on the beach and patrolling was maintained from 06.00 pm to 05.00 am.
The traffic cell staff looked after the traffic arrangements and necessary diversions were done at various points to avoid traffic jams.
Compared to last year the number of missing articles reported at the police station were comparatively less.
There were no any incidents of eve teasing or molestation reported. PI Dalvi informed that the huge number of police presence in the area helped them to control and prevent the untoward incidents.
The police penalised law violators and four persons were booked for drunken driving as they were found riding under the influence of alcohol.  76 were pulled up for the violation on New Year’s Day and were issued traffic challans.  
No major incident was reported at the Calangute police station. Vital points such as Tito’s/Mambos clubs, Sinquerim, Calangute beach entrance, Baga end, Calangute parking, Candolim parking, Baga parking were deployed with adequate police personnel.
PI Dalvi himself along with SP North, Chandan Choudhary carried out patrolling and supervised the security arrangements.
