18 structures likely to be demolished

PANJIM:  The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has identified 18 structures in Panjim that are in dilapidated conditions, for which proceedings have begun to demolish the same, said CCP Commissioner Agnelo Fernandes and Panjim Mayor Rohit Monserrate, while reviewing the collapse of part of a structure in Panjim on Wednesday. That structure was not on identified list but Fernandes said CCO will check again to see if there are any other structures that need to be added to the list.

Fernandes said notices have been given to the owners of these structures, which are mostly located in Fontainhas and that the demolition will be initiated only after the due process is completed and the structures are condemned first. He said that most of the owners are absentee landlords and that no one is residing at any of these structures, thus ruling out loss of life to any inhabitants of such structures.
