PANJIM: Panjim Traffic Cell in an extensive drive against traffic violations clamped over 1800 vehicles for being stationed in no parking areas of the city. This included government vehicles.
Police Inspector of Panjim Traffic Cell, Brendon D’Souza, said that in December 2017 all together 1802 vehicles were clamped in no parking areas as they were obstructing vehicular movement in the State’s capital.
The drive will continue with the same zeal so that people adopt discipline while parking their vehicles, he added.
In December, traffic police clamped nine government vehicles, including the vehicle of the Tiswadi Mamlatdar and that of other officers. In January till Saturday, five government vehicles have been clamped, as per data with the traffic cell.
Inspector D’Souza said that a special team has been formed to monitor and clamp vehicles parked in prohibited areas. He said that the team works from 8am to 10pm.
“Majority of government vehicles flouting parking rules are seen near Directorate of Accounts, Junta House and near the North Goa Collectorate building,” he said.
D’Souza said that many people have been complaining that government vehicles are parked in no parking areas. “There cannot be separate rules for government vehicles except for emergency services vehicles so now we are paying special attention near government offices,” he said.
