Assault on scribe: cops ouster demanded
PANJIM: The Congress party has urged Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to suspend Police Inspector Pravin Kumar Vast and Sub Inspector Vikram Naik for allegedly assaulting a local journalist, while on duty. The journalist, working with a local news channel, in a complaint alleged that the duo harassed him because he did not know how to speak Konkani. The incident at the Panjim police station was recorded by the victim on his mobile phone and submitted to the Panjim police along with the complaint on December 27.
Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar in a letter to Chief Minister has demanded the immediate suspension of the police officials, one of whom is also indicted in the House Committee report on drugs. “It is very evident from video footage shown on local channels that both the officials abused their powers and disrespected the journalist,” he said. North Goa SP, Priyanka Kashyap has already initiated an inquiry into the complaint.

MARGAO: Margao police has registered offence of criminal Breach of Trust under section 406 IPC against accused Iqbal alias Abdul, a native of Mangalore, Karnataka, a driver by profession, on complaint filed by Kishor Shabi Kanolkar, resident of Nagmodem, Navelim. Kanolkar stated to the police that on December 26 at 7.20 am the accused Iqbal, driver of Swaraj Mazda pick-up GA-01-Z-3306, belonging to complainant, was entrusted to deliver 200 bags of cement at Ponda, but failed to do so and sold the cement bags.
Further investigation is in progress.
