200 Barcem, Gaondongrim BPL families to receive housing funds

MARGAO, JAN 22 Come January 27, and around 200 families under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) from Barcem and Gaondongrim will receive funds amounting to Rs 20,000 each for housing under the RDA scheme Indira Awaas Yojana.

Come January 27, and around 200 families under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) from Barcem and Gaondongrim will receive funds amounting to Rs 20,000 each for housing under the RDA scheme Indira Awaas Yojana.
Hundred families each from Barcem and Gaondongrim will be distributed cheques of Rs 20,000 as the first installment under the scheme. The beneficiaries are entitled for Rs 35,000 under the scheme for construction of a house.
The function at Barcem will be held at the local Panchayat hall and will be attended by local MLA Babu Kavlekar. Shristhal Panchayat will play host for the cheque distribution function which will be attended by the MLAs of Poinguinim, Ramesh Tawadkar and Canacona MLA Vijay Poi Khot.
RDA Minister Churchill Alemao will preside over the two functions.
RDA Project Director, South Narayan Sawant told Herald that this is the first major attempt to provide financial benefit to BPL families under the Indira Awaas Yojana.
He said his office is compiling the list of BPL beneficiaries in other talukas of South Goa as well.
Meanwhile, the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme made a beginning on a moderate note in the jurisdiction of Barcem village Panchayat.
Around 28 local people have been employed on a kutcha road work under the NREG scheme with a daily wage of Rs 110.
Sawant told Herald that a total of 33 persons were issued job cards, of which only 28 of them applied for the jobs.
Barcem has now joined Gaondongrim village in the implementation of NREG scheme in South Goa district.
