PORVORIM: Porvorim Police has given details of the charges against the unruly mob of about 200 people in connection with the ruckus at Porvorim last week.
“Porvorim Police has registered an offence against 200 people under Sections 143, 147, 148, 353, 352, 427 read with 149 of Indian Penal Code for allegedly assaulting police personnel with water bottles, stones, etc, and also for blocking the national highway 17 and causing traffic jam on October 31,” based on the complaint filed by Porvorim PI Shivram Vaiganker on behalf of the State.
“The members of the mob raised slogans against police personnel. Some unruly members pelted bottles on the police personnel while discussions were going on between police officials and members of the mob. The members of the mob demanded that Nigerian nationals involved in the incident at O’Coqueiro junction should be produced before them so that they can take action against them. They also made allegations against police personnel that they will not take any action against Nigerian nationals,” stated the complaint.
The complaint further stated that “the members of unruly mob blocked the national highway from 15.30 hours to 16.50 hours and paralyzed normal life in North district. The ambulance and essential services were held up. The mob assaulted the police personnel with water bottles, stones, etc, while discharging their lawful duties. The action on the part of the unruly mob in blocking the national highway and causing huge traffic jam is in violation of the Supreme Court directions which clearly prohibits such action.”
Porvorim Police are yet to make any arrests in the case.
