PANJIM: The Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM) Department at Goa Medical College (GMC) has revealed that there are 206 COVID-19 hotspots in the State, which now include rural and peri-urban areas as well.

Dr Jagdish Cacodkar, head of PSM and member of the expert committee on the third wave said the hotspots have now scattered across Goa.

He explained how the PSM Department conducts frequent analysis on emerging hotspots and the aforementioned figures were from their latest 183rd report.

He pointed out how last month; their reports had indicated that hot spots were there in the talukas of Badez, Salcete, Tiswadi, Mormugao and to some extent, Ponda.

Dr Cacodkar stressed on the need for all persons to follow COVID appropriate behaviour as that has been the biggest factor in the number of cases increasing or decreasing.  He warned if people become complacent again and there are large crowded gatherings the infection could spread again, which in turn puts the public at large at risk. He had listed human behaviour as one of the factors that could lead to the third wave.
