25 held for illegal sand extraction in Tiracol

PANJIM: As many as 25 labourers, caught illegally extracting sand from Ugvem-Tiracol, were arrested in a joint raid by Mines and Geology Department, Captain of Ports and law enforcing agencies.

PANJIM: As many as 25 labourers, caught illegally extracting sand from Ugvem-Tiracol, were arrested in a joint raid by Mines and Geology Department, Captain of Ports and law enforcing agencies.
The raid was carried out post-midnight on Saturday. 
“We had been receiving repeated complaints about illegal sand extraction. This is then loaded onto vehicles to be transported to a decided location. In the raid, we caught the workers red-handed carrying out the illegal activity,” a senior official, who was a part of the raiding team, told Herald.
The raiding party also seized equipment used for sand extraction and loading. Pernem police are now probing for whom these workers were carrying out the illegal activity and where it was being transported. “It has been going on for many days,” the officer said.
