VASCO: The officials of excise department Vasco, on Tuesday commenced the process to renew liquor outlet licenses. About 25 licenses were renewed on first day.
According to officials from Vasco’s Excise Department, there are approximately 312 affected liquor outlets under Mormugao Municipal council jurisdiction and all these outlets had to down their shutters following SC first order banning sale of liquor within 500 meteres from national Highway. However, since SC granted relief to the liquor outlets located under Municipal Jurisdiction, a direction was also received from the state administration to renew such licenses under Municipal Jurisdiction on Monday.
“Today, we have renewed about 25 licenses and we are expecting to complete the renewal process of all 312 odd licenses within two weeks time. We are expecting to collect an amount of Rs 37.44 Lakh as licence renewal fees from all 312 liquor outlet licenses, however, we are not sure whether all liquor outlets would come up for the renewal,” an official told Herald.
