PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ambitious National Health Volunteers Campaign (NHVC) saw a whopping 2,721 health volunteers in State undergoing the training within a span of 15 days last month.
The Medical Cell of BJP Goa held the booth level training programme on COVID-19 across 38 out of 40 constituencies. Pernem and Cortalim were not covered even as the party did not disclose the reason.
“We have covered 38 constituencies but Pernem and Cortalim could not be covered. Health volunteers at every booth were imparted the training on handling and use of medical devices like thermometers, oximeters, thermal guns, etc to help people in need,” Party President Sadanand Shet Tanavade told reporters at a briefing held at party’s head office in the city, on Monday.
A total of 2,521 health volunteers were trained by 150 experts, who were trained by the medical team headed by Dr Shekhar Salkar, who is also the in-charge of the national campaign in the State.
“The last time (when COVID-19 hit Goa), there was a problem. The situation is different now. Our team is trained and doctors have contributed immensely to train the health volunteers. We also imparted practical training. Our karyakartas in the villages will help the people in need,” Dr Salkar said.
Post Ganesh Chaturthi, the trained health volunteers will visit the villages to create awareness and collect necessary information whilst also provide medical help in case of emergency.
The training also included creating awareness on COVID-19 appropriate behaviour among people.
