CANACONA: Canacona Police arrested three persons in connection with a series of theft cases that took place in Canacona taluka since the beginning of the New Year.
According to Canacona PI Harishchandra Madkaikar, Laximan Adim (Fatorda), Shivaji Chavan and Venkatesh Lamani, both natives of Gadag-Hubli, but residing at Seraulim-Salcette were arrested for their alleged involvement in three different theft cases registered with the police.
“Part of the stolen booty, including gold ornaments, has also been recovered from the trio arrested for committing thefts at Chiplem, Mokhard-Bhatpal and Poinguinim,” informed PI Madkaikar.
“Their involvement in some more theft cases in other parts of the State and also in Canacona taluka is not ruled out and their links to many other thefts is also being investigated,” PI Madkaikar told Herald.
Meanwhile, in the lead obtained during interrogation of the accused, a police team led by PSI Prashal Dessai left for Karnataka to arrest some more suspects.
It may be recalled that a series of thefts were reported in broad daylight in the taluka, mostly targeting houses in isolated places.
In most cases, the burglars entered the houses soon after the inmates moved out either in the morning or in the afternoon, ransacking cupboards, etc, and decamping with whatever valuables available in the house.
It is learnt that many affected residents preferred not to file police complaints, while only few, whose houses were burgled of more valuables filed police complaints.
PI Madkaikar expects more arrests to follow and the teams are working under the supervision of SP (South) S P Prabhudessai.
