CANACONA: Coming down heavily on government contractors, Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar claimed that callousness by contractors in undertaking and completing tendered works within the stipulated period had undermined the performance of the State government.
Tawadkar was speaking after Power Minister Milind Naik launched Rs 63 crore worth underground power cabling works in Canacona taluka.
“Due to the their previous practices of dilly-dallying to commence and execute works with active support of the previous government, some contractors still continue to work in the same style,” said Tawadkar.
“But this government has already taken a decision to deal with the erring contractors, especially those trying to undermine the government, with stern action. We have decided to blacklist such contractors,” he warned.
Tawadkar, who spelt out government’s several upcoming developmental works, stated that the previous government used to utilize ST sub-plan fund only for Loutolim and Raia. “But this partisan trend will not be there anymore and funds from his ministry will be utilized wherever required, and presently it is more required in Canacona constituency,” he added.
“Soon after the Tribal Welfare Ministry was given to me, I got the total ST funds diverted for the utilization of this ministry alone, unlike the previous government practice of diverting it elsewhere as per their whims and fancies.”
Tawadkar assured that by May, the much-awaited Gaunem dam in Gaondongrim will be commissioned, providing additional 10 MLD water and within next 2 years all the households in the taluka will get 24 hours water supply.
“Rs 24 crore worth water supply line in CMC areas is being taken up shortly to refurbish the old pipeline.”
With regard to the much-awaited twin bridges on rivers Talpona and Galgibaga, Tawadkar said consultant has already been appointed to study the construction of these bridges, and before the remaining three years of this government comes to end the works will be halfway done.
