MARGAO: Thirty-eight candidates, including four candidates from the Goa Vikas Party and two from the BJP, are left in the fray for the nine Zilla Panchayat constituencies in Salcete taluka after withdrawals on Monday.
Davorlim constituency tops the list with 10 candidates, while Nuvem will witness a straight fight between South Goa Zilla Panchayat vice-Chairperson Wilfred D’Sa and GVP candidate Marcelino Faria.
South Goa Zilla Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues is locked in a triangular contest after two candidates Eulogio Gomes and Maclin Dourado withdrew from the fray.
Sitting South Goa ZP members contesting the elections includes Nelly Rodrigues, Wilfred D’Sa, Cipru Cardozo and Maria Rebello. Sitting member Domnick Gauncar has fielded his wife in Raia, while member Anthony Rodrigues has fielded his sister-in-law in Velim. Guirdolim ZP member Seema Dias’ husband and former ZP Chairperson Clafacio Dias is contesting from Curtorim.
Prominent amongst those who withdrew their nomination papers include Eulogio Gomes in favour of Marcus D’Souza for the Colva seat and former ZP member Atul Verlekar in Davorlim.
The Nuvem seat will witness a straight fight between ZP Vice-Chairperson Wilfred D’Sa and GVP candidate Marcelino Faria. Sitting ZP Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues is locked in a triangular contest in Colva and is pitted against Marcus D’Souza and Joao Pereira.
A total of three candidates are in the fray for the Navelim seat, including sitting member Cipru Cardozo, Josefa Rebello and Pradeep Verlekar.
Ten candidates are left in the fray for the Davorlim seat. They are Abdul Shaikh, Don Fernandes, Herculano Niasso, Leoncio Raikar, Martinho Roacha, Mustak Shaikh, Satyavijai Naik, Tauseef Shaikh, Ulhas Tuenkar and Valabh Varak.
Six candidates are vying for the Curtorim seat. They are Alexinho Da Silva, Anthony Piexoto, Clafacio Dias, Conceicao Dias, Edison Cardozo and Francisco D’Costa.
For the Guirdolim reserved seat, as many as three women are left in the fray. They are Associana Gomes, Minaxi Gaonkar and Sanjana Velip.
Velim – Veena Cardozo, Mancy Rodrigues, Melcy Barreto and Pedrinha Cardozo.
Benaulim – Hannibal D’Costa, Maria Rebello and Walter Pereira.
Raia – Dulcina Fernandes, Fatima Fernandes, Fatima Gaonkar and Meera Colaco.
