PANJIM: Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services received the first batch of 40 personnel trained in swift water flood rescue. They were trained at a special rescue training academy in Mumbai.
Director of Fire and Emergency Services, Ashok Menon, said these experts will now train the State Disaster Response Force from police, home guard and civil defence. He said that more than 30 personnel will be sent for training. “The fire personnel deputed for the training are first tested for swimming skills and thereafter deputed to undergo higher skills to perform in high risk rescue of swift water and floods,” he said.
The trained personnel will be deployed at three stations Curchorem, Ponda and Panjim, Menon said.
