PANJIM: Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Corporation (IPSCDL) on Friday said that the work order for 450 CCTV cameras to be fitted from Panjim to Dona Paula will be issued by June 15 while the process of setting up the cameras will be completed in the next seven months.
The entire project is part of Goa Intelligent City Management System (GICMS) under the Smart City Mission and will be integrated with the Corporation of the City of Panaji’s (CCP) garbage management system and the Goa Police control room.
IPSCDL also said that 4,000 parking slots are to be created in the capital, where citizens will be able to pre-book parking slots and pay for it through an app.
Addressing the media, IPSCDL Director Sidharth Kuncalienkar said, “The intelligent city management system will be the backbone for the integrated command and control centre (ICCC), which is being developed under the Smart City Mission.”
He added, “IPSCDL will issue a work order for 450 CCTV cameras from Panjim to Dona Paula costing Rs 180 crore. Currently we have started a trial on 18 June road. The number plate of every vehicle will be recorded on some cameras automatically. Data of citizens will be generated by cameras. Police too will be alerted automatically if any suspicious activity is noted. Feeling of being watched by cameras will make citizens more alert. This will curb activities such as throwing of garbage or waste in public places.”
IPSCDL ensured that while creating the tender document it had penned down that a POC was a mandatory qualification for getting the technical evaluation cleared. A committee has been constituted by the Goa government which will finally decide on basis of the live performance. Senior government officials, including Urban Development Minister, have been invited to witness this live demonstration during this exercise. The companies that are the final bidders are BSNL, Honeywell, L&T and NEC.
“I am confident that we would be able to give the work order by the second week of June and by August we plan to complete the project in six months. This would include facilities like free WiFi, traffic management etc” IPSCDL MD and CEO Swayandipta Pal Chaudhuri said.
