PONDA: The Ponda Police on Tuesday arrested five persons for allegedly assaulting a youth and his family members in connection with a petty cricket quarrel at Borim.
According to Ponda PI Mohan Gaude, 30-year-old Mayur Naik was playing cricket at Gudder-Tamshirem, Borim at around 4.30 pm when 32-year-old Amogh Naik arrived and started bullying Mayur. After the over, Amogh instead of leaving the spot started quarrelling with Mayur and threw away the bat and damaged the wickets. This led to a verbal spat between the two wherein Amogh assaulted Mayur, who left the ground and went home. Later at around 10 pm, Amogh accompanied by his father-in-law Shivanand Rathod (55), brother-in-law Amardeep Rathod (32), Swapnil Borkar (29) and Sunny Naik (30) all residents of Borim entered Mayur’s residence and assaulted him and his family.
