PANJIM: Police have registered an offence against five inmates of Colvale jail for allegedly assaulting the Gauri Achari murder accused Gaurav Bidre. His request to have separate prison cell has been accepted.
Bidre, who is lodged in the Colvale central jail, had requested the jail authorities to be given a separate cell, claiming that he has a threat from the other inmates. He had complained of being assaulted by some of the jail inmates.
Accused Gaurav Bidre, who is under trial for murdering the professor from Khandola College, Gauri Achari, is in judicial custody at Colvale jail. Meanwhile, arguments on the bail application filed by Bidre will begin from February 3.
It may be recalled that on June 26, 2022, the Old Goa Police arrested Gaurav Bidre, 36 of Sawantwadi, Maharashtra and residing at Old Goa on the charges of abducting and allegedly murdering 35-year-old professor Gauri Achari from Corlim.
Accused Bidre had allegedly murdered Prof Gauri by strangulating her in her car at Corlim.
He later parked the car near Primos Park, Corlim, shifted the body into an SUV and dumped it in the jungle near Kadamba bypass road, Old Goa.
