Toddy Tappers meet at Margao
PANJIM: The extraordinary general body meeting of the All Goa Toddy Tappers Association will be held on January 7, at 11am at office premises, Margao to discuss Old Goa Golden jubilee celebration and all the outstanding issues with the government and pending schemes will also be discussed in the meeting. The President of All Goa Toddy Tappers Association, Gaspar Afonso, requests the toddy tappers to attend the same.
GNSS anniversary celebration
PANJIM: Nair Service Society of Goa (GNSS) will be celebrating its 8th anniversary at Sant Gadge Maharaj Hall, Porvorim, on January 5, from 10 am to 6 pm. Vice Chancellor, Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University, Cheruthuruthy, P N Sresh will be the chief guest.
Meritorious students will be felicitated with scholarships and senior citizens will also be feted. About 500 families of the Nair community along with friends are expected to attend the function. Sadhya lunch and entertainment programme featuring Sopana Sangeetham and dance will be part of the function.
Feast of Epiphany at Verem
PANJIM: The annual Feast of Epiphany, also known as the feast of the Three Kings will be celebrated in the Church of Reis Magos, Verem on January 6. There will be a low mass at 7.30 am, while the solemn concelebrated feast mass will be held at 9.30 am at which Fr Simon Fernandes, Professor of Rachol Seminary will be the main celebrant. On January 7, the Feast of Our Lady of Health will be celebrated near the chapel of Our Lady of Health at the foot of the Church. The feast mass will be at 8 am at which Fr Valeriano Vaz, Procurator of Archdiocese of Goa and Daman will be the main celebrant. There will also be a mass in the Church at 5 pm. A Konkani tiatr entitled ‘Hem Amchem Ghor’ by Comedian Agostinho will be staged in the Church compound on January 7 at 6.30 pm.
Book ‘Karma Kurry’ released
PANJIM: Author Jeroninio (Jerry) Almeida and Jyoti Nanda’s book Karma Kurry for the Mind, Body, Heart & Soul was launched at Broadway Book Store, Caculo Mall, St Inez on January 2. The book is a compelling collection of life stories of ordinary citizens with an unbeatable spirit to transform the world. The preface to Karma Kurry was written by Madiba ~ Nelson Mandela, who said, “These stories have that power to inspire people to rise and act; to make a difference.”
Present at the launch were Bismarque Dias; dental surgeon Dr Hubert Gomes and Principal of Vivek International HS, Chandigarh and writer Kimmy Dhanoa.

Blessed Joseph Vaz feast on Jan 16
CORTALIM: The feast of Blessed Joseph Vaz, the patron of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, will be celebrated at Sancoale Sanctuary on January 16.
Novenas begin on January 7 with masses at 6, 7.30 and 9 am and evening masses at 4 and 6 pm.
On January 12 masses are at 6, 7 and 9 am and evening at 4 pm and 6 pm. Inter-religious meet will be held on January 9 at 10.30 a.m. Day of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held on January 10 from 10 am to 3.30 pm. (prayer and fasting).
A night vigil will be conducted on January10 from 10 pm to 5.30 am.
A special mass for the sick will be said on January 12 at 9 am, while a retreat will be conducted on January 13 from 10 am to 3 pm. Childless couples will be prayed over.
On the feast day, masses will be at 5, 6, 7 and 8 am and 4 and 5.30 pm. The concelebrated mass will be at 10 am. Archbishop-Patriarch Felipe Neri Ferrao will be the main celebrant. A procession from the Sanctuary to the Paternal House of Blessed Joseph Vaz at Sancoale followed by Mass will be at Noon.
IFB Point Sony showroom opens
PANJIM: Anand Pundalik Bhaidkar’s prestigious IFB Point (home appliances) and Sony (Make Believe) showroom was inaugurated at Morod, Mapusa by Deputy Chief Minister Adv Francisco C J D’Souza in the presence of Chairperson, Mapusa Municipal Council, Sandip Falari and ex-chairperson and Councillor of MMC Sudhir Kundalkar. D’Souza congratulated Anand Bhaidkar for opening three showrooms of washing machines and TVs within a span of three months. He said if the intention of the person is good, then success follows.
