7 Afghans arrested

TEAM HERALD PANJIM: Seven of eight students from Afghanistan were arrested for attempted murder in a late night attack at Miramar. Panjim police said the attack between two groups of Afghans was triggered following a heated discussion over college election issue. Abdul Jahed, 21, has been admitted to GMC with stab injuries.

Panjim police have registered the offence under various sections against Jaffer Ahmed, Islamuddin Salim, Mansood Gaffer, Shah Mehmood  Zahir, Masood Hyder, Mattiullah Malik, Azametullah Hidayatullah and Nazib Khan, all aged between 20 and 24 years. 
“The fight was over election issue with one group whose studies are sponsored by their government claimed that those who are studying at their own cost should not contest college elections. This triggered a fight between the two groups,” the police said. 
The two groups live in separate rented accommodation and study at different colleges.
