7 villages of Benaulim Constituency come together to organise carnival float parade

MARGAO: The seven villages of Benaulim Constituency have come together to organise a traditional carnival float parade in the constituency. This will be held on February 21, Tuesday, and preparations for the same have started.

This was announced at a media briefing held on Saturday where a new organising committee was formed that would have one representative from each of the seven villages.

The committee would be supported by the United Boys of Benaulim club that have been organising such carnival parades in the past too.

They were supported by Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas.

The idea they said is to bring back the tradition and nostalgia of the carnival parade in the coastal belt.

Pele Fernandes recalled how the Benaulim carnival was famous for not just the floats but the music, the atmosphere and how the community would get together and enjoy the programme.

The committee members added that they want to bring back the old days of revelry and also urged the youth and children to try and participate.

Viegas also appealed to those who have traditional floats for the general carnival parades across the State to also participate, especially those who had participated in Benaulim’s carnival in the past.

The organisers also added that they want this template to be followed for the carnivals to be held in Benaulim in the years to come as well.
